ENVIRONMENTAL CLEANUP DRIVE: Ojo LG Chairman Cracks Down on Indiscriminate Refuse Dumping

The Executive Chairman of Ojo Local Government, Hon. Muhibat Titilola Rufai, has launched a vigorous sensitization and enforcement drive to tackle the menace of indiscriminate refuse dumping and selling of wares on medians and walkways along highways in the Iyana-Iba axis. This move is part of the council’s efforts to ensure that Ojo Local Government is clean and free from environmental hazards. According to the Chairman, the drive became necessary due to the alarming rate of indiscriminate refuse dumping and selling of wares on unauthorized spaces, which poses a significant threat to the environment and public health.

Hon. Muhibat emphasized that the council is determined to take drastic measures to address this issue and maintain a clean and healthy environment for its residents. During a seven-hour tour of the area, Hon. Muhibat warned residents and traders to desist from dumping refuse on medians and highways, stressing that the council will not hesitate to take action against anyone caught violating the environmental sanitation laws.

The Chairman also took the opportunity to remind revenue collectors and traders that all revenue generated funds should henceforth be remitted to the council’s purse instead of individuals. She warned that the council will not tolerate any further diversion of revenue and will take strict action against anyone found wanting.

Hon. Muhibat’s determination to keep Ojo Local Government clean and tidy is evident in her actions and residents are beginning to take notice. Many have praised the Chairman for taking bold steps to address the issue of indiscriminate refuse dumping, which has been a major challenge in the area for years.

In addition to the crackdown on refuse dumping, the council will also strictly restrict illegal parking of vehicles, parks and garages along highways and roads. This move aims to decongest the roads, improve traffic flow and enhance safety. Residents and vehicle owners are advised to comply with the regulations to avoid sanctions.

As the enforcement drive continues, residents are expected to benefit from improved environmental sanitation and a reduced risk of diseases associated with poor waste management. The council’s efforts are also expected to enhance the aesthetic appeal of the area, making it a more pleasant place to live and work. With Hon. Muhibat Titilola Rufai at the helm, the council is poised to make significant strides in maintaining a clean and healthy environment for its residents.
