Crackdown on Corruption: Ojo Local Government, Federal/State Agencies Unite Against Fake Document Racketeering

On the 3rd of April, 2025, the Executive Chairman of Ojo Local Government, Hon. Rasulu Idowu, convened a joint meeting with heads of all Federal and State Government Agencies operating within the Ojo Local Government Secretariat (Agency Arena). These agencies include the LSETF, LSSRA, NIMC, Drivers License Office, Road Safety, NSCDC, Riders Card Office, Vehicle Plate Numbering Office, DSS, NYSC, etc.

The Chairman emphasized that the meeting was long overdue, citing persistent reports of public office touting, fake document processing, and fraudulent issuance of certificates, which have tarnished the reputation and credibility of the local government.

He condemned the escalating criminal activities at the Agency Arena, stating that the local government administration will no longer tolerate such illegal practices. Henceforth, individuals or groups involved in these acts will face arrest and prosecution.

The Chairman disclosed that the meeting was prompted by an official communication dated March 20, 2025, from the Lagos office of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC). The report highlighted cases of extortion, identity theft, and fraud targeting members of the public applying for National Identification Numbers (NIN).

In response, the Ojo Local Government management has resolved to take immediate action to restore order and integrity to the Agency Arena. The Chairman issued a stern warning: anyone involved in or aware of fake document racketeering within the premises must desist immediately or face the full wrath of the law.

Ensuring compliance, the meeting has agreed that:

1. All agencies within the premises must ensure their staff and ad-hoc workers wear valid ID cards at all times during working hours.
2. Operations of private business centers and unauthorized entities within the premises are hereby prohibited, effective immediately.

Additionally, the Chairman reiterated a prior circular directing all agencies to vacate the Agency Arena by 6:00 PM daily. Staff required to work beyond regular hours or on weekends must obtain clearance from either the Executive Chairman or the Council Manager. This also to avert the case of theft and looting as reported by the head of National Population Commission Office (NPC) and Lagos State Residents Registration Agency.

The Council Manager, Mr. Sejiro Asokere, echoed the Chairman’s stance, urging agency heads to collaborate closely with the council management to eradicate these illegal activities. He emphasized the need for agency leaders to caution their subordinates, many of whom allegedly enable these operations covertly. Mr. Asokere warned that anyone apprehended would bear the consequences individually.

The meeting was attended by key officials, including the Supervisor for Works (Hon. Kehinde Lawal), Supervisor for Environment (Hon. Tudonu Joel), and Mr. Juwon Omotoba (PA to the Council Manager & Officer in Charge of Peace and Security).

Ojo Local Government reaffirms its commitment to transparency, accountability, and the rule of law in service to the community.
